The slow‑motion phalanxes and chiseled warriors of 300 made it a pop‑culture rocket in 2006—and a lightning rod ever since. Snyder has repeatedly argued that the movie ’s intense male camaraderie and its take on ancient Spartan culture land far from a celebration of macho authoritarianism.
He made a similar case in 2024 on The Joe Rogan Experience, pushing back on claims the film is homophobic by describing its mainstream‑action embrace of homoerotic energy as deliberate and unmistakable. The new Variety comments keep that same line of defense going, with Snyder answering decades of discourse with the same blunt, cheeky counterpunch.
