Zendaya Says Watching Tom Holland in The Odyssey Brought Her to Tears

Zendaya is out here being the MVP of supportive partners. She watched Tom Holland work on Christopher Nolan 's 'The Odyssey ' and got so proud she almost cried. Oh, and the best part: they are in the same movie and still never share a single scene. Hollywood scheduling remains undefeated.

In a new Elle interview, Zendaya said she spent time on the 'Odyssey' set watching Holland, 29, play Telemachus (aka Odysseus ' kid). She is in the film too, as Athena, but their storylines never cross. Still, being there let her see him work up close, and she could not stop raving about it.

"I could have cried, I was so proud."

File that under: very sweet, mildly surprising, and yes, I am aware some of you just made the exact same face you make during a rom-com third-act reunion.

Zendaya also talked about shooting 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day ' (the fourth movie in the franchise ), where she and Holland actually were on set together constantly. She called the whole thing a dream: going to work every day with her best friend and the person she loves, bringing their dogs to set, and slipping right back into a world they literally grew up in. In her words, it felt like coming home. Expect to see them doing the promo circuit together for both films.

Where they are as a couple

The two got engaged in 2024. This year, rumors flared that they secretly got married after stylist Law Roach seemed to hint at it, but neither Zendaya nor Holland has said anything about that. What they have done: show up together in public plenty, including at Holland's second annual BERO Padel Classic earlier this year.

Why Athena feels like a fit for Zendaya

Zendaya says playing Athena made a lot of sense to her. She relates to the character's calm, steady, quietly wise energy and says people have been calling her an old soul since she was a kid. Growing up around adults, spending tons of time with her parents and grandmother, and working from a young age gave her a more mature perspective. Even so, as she gets closer to 30, she admits she still feels like a kid on the inside. We will see how all of that translates to the screen when 'The Odyssey' opens on July 17, 2026.
