Up-and-coming musician Xavier Xav Trudeau is cheering on dad Justin’s reported romance with pop star Katy Perry — and the 18-year-old says he now sends her his best new tracks, as he revealed on Wednesday’s episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast.

File this under sentences I did not think I would type: Justin Trudeau is dating Katy Perry, and his 18-year-old son is into it. Not the headlines, the actual relationship. And yes, there are yacht photos. But let me back up.

Xav on Katy (and why he sends her his songs)

Xavier 'Xav' Trudeau, who is building a music career, talked about all of this on the Wednesday, April 8 episode of the 'Can't Be Censored' podcast. In short: he and Perry, 41, get along, and she actually gives him feedback on his tracks. He has known her over the past year, which lines up with when she and his dad, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, 54, started seeing each other.

'When I’m really happy with a song I send it to her. She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.'

He described her as nice, grounded, and easy to be around. More importantly to him, his dad seems happy, which he says is what matters.

As for the circus that comes with dating a global pop star, he says the 'noise' is part of the deal when your father is a high-profile politician. Seeing photos of Justin and Perry together feels normal to him — like seeing a picture of his dad and his mom, or just his dad. His take on the whole surreal vibe: sometimes he looks at his life, laughs, and reminds himself this is simply his reality.

Growing up in public (and trying not to read the comments)

Xav also got honest about the internet part of all this. He has been told his whole life not to read the comments, and he tries to keep that energy. He grew up in the spotlight thanks to his dad’s political career, and his mom — Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, a public speaker, published author, and mental health advocate — is also a public figure. Still, he admits the hate can get to him. When it does, he reframes it: comments, shares, likes — engagement is engagement, and it helps his music get seen.

So where are Katy and Justin in all this?

Here’s the quick catch-up, because their timeline has been a little all over the place but easy enough to track:

  • Early 2025- ish: According to Xav, he has known Perry for about a year, which is roughly when she and Justin began dating.
  • July 2025: The first romantic links hit the gossip wires after they are spotted spending time together in Canada.
  • Following months: They keep things mostly quiet.
  • October 2025: Not-so-quiet anymore — they are photographed showing PDA on a yacht off Santa Barbara, California.
  • Around the same time: A source told Us Weekly that Perry was very happy, trying to keep it low-key, and not aiming to blast the relationship everywhere.
  • Halloween 2025: Justin nods to Perry with his costume — subtle, but a wink is a wink.
  • December 2025: Justin pops up in Perry’s Tokyo photo roundup on Instagram.
  • January (post-holidays): He turns up again in her holiday-season photo dump.
  • Last month: Perry shares a dinner shot of the two of them, because apparently we now live in a timeline where the former Canadian PM is in Katy Perry’s grid.

For what it is worth, Justin himself has not publicly unpacked the relationship since it first bubbled up in July 2025. Perry, meanwhile, shares daughter Daisy, 5, with ex-fiance Orlando Bloom. Justin shares three kids with his ex-wife Sophie, 50: Xav, 18; Ella-Grace, 17; and Hadrien, 11.

If you want the whole conversation, Xav’s episode of 'Can’t Be Censored' is up now. It is candid and a little surreal — which, to be fair, fits the story.
