Will Quentin Tarantino team with Ben Affleck after Matt Damon’s “write us a movie”?
Matt Damon has one big ask—and yes, it ropes in Quentin Tarantino and Ben Affleck.
After Quentin Tarantino devoted a Sight and Sound essay to Matt Damon ’s performance in The Rip—and raved about Damon’s on‑screen chemistry with Ben Affleck—Damon used a fresh GQ interview to shoot his shot. With the tone light but the message unmistakable, he floated a very public invitation for Tarantino to cook something up for the childhood friends turned producing partners.
“Well, he should write us a movie, ” Damon told GQ. “We would be very happy if he did that.”
In his Sight and Sound piece, Tarantino argued that audiences may take Damon’s skills for granted and said he loves seeing Damon and Affleck together—going so far as to suggest they’re better as a duo. Damon called the praise “amazing” coming from Tarantino and said he’d already heard about the tribute before the interview ran.
He also pointed to Artists Equity, the company he and Affleck co-founded, as the place they park the projects they truly want to make. At this stage, Damon said, their shared “why not” attitude is rooted in the same boyhood dream that first put them on a set together.
No “third-peak” chase
Asked by GQ whether he’s eyeing a hat trick after Good Will Hunting and Christopher Nolan ’s The Odyssey , Damon pushed back on the idea. He said he has “no right to expect” another career-defining moment and instead feels enormous gratitude that The Odyssey arrived when it did.
Damon added that no movie is a sure thing—even though, as he noted, The Odyssey earned roughly three times what The Martian did. At those budget levels, he said, simply breaking even requires numbers far beyond his usual films.
He also revealed that Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert pulled him into a nearly finished science‑fiction film, and after that, he’s planning a long break. For now, the Tarantino invite is out there—and Damon and Affleck sound ready to pick it up at Artists Equity if the filmmaker bites.
