Whitney Reveals the Real Reason She Was Done With Mormon Wives Before Her Official Exit
Whitney Leavitt telegraphed her Secret Lives of Mormon Wives exit long before it was official, flirting with quitting during Hulu’s 2024 debut season after walking away from MomTok, the cast’s content-creation collective.
Whitney Leavitt has basically been inching toward the exit for a while. Now it sounds official-ish: during her final bow as Roxie Hart in Chicago this May, she reportedly told the audience she will not be back for Hulu 's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Us Weekly says they reached out to her for comment. Here is how we got here, because it has been building since season 1.
The long goodbye: from MomTok to Broadway
- 2024: Season 1 of Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premieres. Around the finale, Leavitt leaves MomTok, the content-creator group linked to the cast. In September 2024, she explained it was not a rash move and that a lot had led up to it. Asked if she would return for season 2, she said she wanted to watch the show first before deciding.
- Seasons 1–3: Despite exiting MomTok, Leavitt sticks with the series and ends up appearing in all three seasons while also chasing other gigs.
- November 2025: On Dancing With the Stars season 34, she tells host Julianne Hough that after two seasons of Mormon Wives she needed a break. DWTS, she says, offered a different kind of challenge and an opportunity she was grateful to jump on.
- March 2026: In The Hollywood Reporter, she signals she is ready to move beyond the show and push herself in new directions.
- April 2026: While filming on Mormon Wives season 4 is paused amid the domestic violence investigation involving Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen, Leavitt goes on Good Morning America and admits she is figuring things out in real time. She says it might be time to 'venture out' and notes how passionate she feels about her Broadway run.
- May 2026: During her last performance as Roxie Hart in Chicago, she reportedly tells the crowd she will not return to Mormon Wives.
"I wouldn't be where I am without The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but it feels like it's time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I've been trying to get even before the show."
So what now?
None of this is shocking if you have been paying attention: she left the creator clique, took a detour to DWTS, found her groove on Broadway, and kept hinting that she wanted something new. With season 4 already on pause due to that ongoing investigation, it is pretty safe to expect any eventual return of the show will be without Leavitt. If she makes it official with a statement, we will update, but for now, the writing has been on the stage door for months.
