Where is Adria Arjona From? Hint: Think Tropical
The beautiful Adria Arjona was born on a Caribbean island.
Summary
- Adria Arjona is a rising star in Hollywood.
- The actress' identity has been shaped by living in three different Hispanic countries.
- Arjona is in a romantic relationship with Jason Momoa and continues to star in high-profile movies.
In May of 2024, it was announced that Jason Momoa was dating actress Adria Arjona, with whom he starred in the 2021 film Sweet Girl. But of course, Arjona is known to the public not as Aquaman's gorgeous love interest, but as a magnificent rising star in Hollywood. Her high-profile career began in the mid-2010s, and with each passing year, her roles have become more prominent (well, not counting the utter failure that was 2022's Morbius).
Arjona has lived most of her life in the United States, and it is with the industry of this country that her career is tied. However, the actress is not only fluent in English without the slightest hint of an accent, but also in Spanish. Let's find out more about where the incomparable Adria Arjona is from.
So Where Is Adria Arjona From?
In December 2022, Adria Arjona told Numéro Netherlands that she does not have a clear sense of identity, but that this helps her to take on new roles:
'I feel very Puerto Rican when I'm in the island. I feel very Guatemalan when I'm in Guatemala. I feel Mexican when I'm in Mexico. I don't know where I identify from, that's really hard for me. And even when I speak Spanish, no one can really catch my accent. I'm proud to be Puerto Rican, I am proud to be Guatemalan, I am proud to have been raised in Mexico, but I'm also proud that I don't feel like I belong anywhere. And that's helped me through my acting. I don't have tied roots anywhere.'
Arjona was born in 1992 in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, to Leslie Torres and Ricardo Arjona. Her mother is Puerto Rican and her father, a well-known Latin musician, is Guatemalan. However, until the age of 12, the future actress lived in Mexico City, Mexico, which gave her a sense of belonging not only to her Puerto Rican and Guatemalan roots, but also to Mexican heritage. When her parents divorced, however, she moved with her mother to Miami, Florida, and has lived independently in New York City since the age of 18.
A Little Bit about Her Relationship with Jason Momoa
Until recently, both were married: Arjona was married to her longtime partner, Puerto Rican lawyer Edgardo Canales, from 2019 to 2023, while Momoa was married to a rebel from the world of the entertainment industry, Lisa Bonet, from 2017 to 2024 (but they separated in 2020, according to the obtained documents).
However, in May 2024, Jason's fans saw a remarkable post on his personal Instagram account, where the actor shared his impressions of his motorcycle trip through Japan. In addition to the bikes and friends in the carousel, one photo seemed incredibly sweet to the public, as it showed Momoa and Arjona (whom the actor affectionately called 'mi amor' in the caption) sitting cuddled together at a restaurant table.
What Are the Actress' Future Career Plans?
As for Arjona, her career continues to grow. On August 23, 2024, the thriller Blink Twice, directed by Zoë Kravitz, will be released in US theaters, in which the actress will star alongside Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, Haley Joel Osment and Geena Davis.
Also in pre-production is Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Naranjo's Say Her Name, in which Adjorna will star opposite Wagner Moura. The second season of Andor, in which the actress plays the role of Bix Caleen, is also expected to be released in 2025.
Moreover, Adria Arjona is no longer limited to American films and TV series. The Guatemalan-Canadian produced sci-fi thriller El Sombreron is in development.
