When does The Witcher season 5 hit Netflix? Release date, new cast, and plot details
The Witcher will end with a fifth and final season on Netflix, and the timeline, cast, and how the story wraps are on the table.
Filming on the final run of The Witcher wrapped back in September 2025 , and the show’s eight episodes have been in post ever since. The plan has shifted, though: instead of the previously expected 2026 window, Netflix now aims to roll out the last chapter in 2027 , with no exact date on the books yet.
Filming wrapped in September 2025, with the eight-episode final season now slated for 2027.
The delay comes after a transition-heavy stretch for the series, which launched in 2019 and saw Liam Hemsworth step in as Geralt in Season 4 following Henry Cavill’s exit. Season 5 was always intended to be the finish line for Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer’s story.

Where the story goes
The final season is expected to draw from The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake, bringing the show in line with Sapkowski’s ending. Geralt continues on the road with his Hansa after being knighted by Queen Meve, with their path eventually leading to Toussaint.
Yennefer’s journey takes her to the Skellige Isles, while Ciri begins the season in Leo Bonhart’s custody — forced into an arena before finding a way out. Through it all, the North Star remains the same: the scattered family trying to find each other again.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has said the series intends to honor the books’ ending, framing Season 5 as the definitive close to Netflix’s Witcher saga.
Netflix hasn’t set a premiere day yet; the eight-episode final season is slated for 2027.
