What’s next for Ted Lasso after season 4? Jason Sudeikis shares thoughts
There’s fresh hope for Ted Lasso diehards, though reviving the feel-good football comedy won’t be a solo act.
On the latest episode of Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso, Jason Sudeikis said there’s no roadmap yet for where Ted Lasso goes after its surprise Season 4 return. He explained that the fourth season happened because the team felt there was still story to tell, but when it comes to possible Seasons 5 and 6, nothing is mapped out and the writers’ room hasn’t started.
“We’ll see. It takes a village.”
Pressed on whether he actually wants to keep making the Apple TV+ comedy, Sudeikis didn’t play coy. He said he’s in if there’s a real appetite for more.
“thought it would be fun.”
Sudeikis added that he assumes Apple TV+ would be open to continuing if the creative team is game, but emphasized there’s no official plan for more episodes. Season 4’s finale was built to work either way — it leaves room for further stories while also functioning as a possible endpoint.
The show also took some big swings this year, including the death of Mae and a pivot that saw Ted move into coaching a second-division women’s soccer team — a change that sparked debate among viewers even as it kept attention on Richmond’s world.
Season 4 by the numbers
- 296.6 million U.S. viewing minutes in the first two days, reportedly topping the show’s own Season 3 record
- 866 million minutes across premiere week
- No. 1 in 37 countries and Apple TV+’s second most-watched global series (reportedly)
- Rotten Tomatoes: 89% critics’ score, 79% audience score
For now, Sudeikis says the interest is there but the next steps aren’t — there’s no writers’ room underway and no renewal in place for Seasons 5 or 6.
