What happens to Douda on The Chi?
Otis "Douda" Perry spent six seasons as the most dangerous man on The Chi's South Side — gang boss, businessman, and for a while, the actual mayor of Chicago. Played by Curtiss Cook, he joined the Showtime drama as a recurring character in season 2 and moved into the main cast in season 4.
His story has an ending, and it 's a hard one.
The short answer
Douda is dead. The season 6 finale, which aired in 2024, opened with police standing over his bloodied body in his own club — then rewound to show a gun pressed to his head and the trigger pulled. After seasons of surviving everyone who came for him, the leader of the 63rd Street Mob finally ran out of lives.
Who killed him
His own right-hand man. Isaiah "Nuck" Rogers (Cortez Smith), Douda's longtime enforcer, pulled the trigger and took over the 63rd Street Mob in a clean power grab. The motive had been building: Douda had publicly beaten Nuck, and years of watching him brutalize people — including those close to Nuck — turned loyalty into a death sentence. Nuck also killed Rob for defying him, cementing the takeover in blood.
Kiesha and Emmett, whom Douda had spent the season terrorizing — he blew up their car — learned the news when Nuck showed up at their door covered in blood. Their reaction was relief.
Why the writers finally did it
Co-showrunner Justin Hillian explained the decision to The Hollywood Reporter in 2024, pointing to a simple Chicago truth about men who make too many enemies:
"One of them is going to be the wrong enemy," Hillian said.
Douda had certainly stockpiled them. In season 6 alone he murdered Q and grew more ruthless than ever, sensing an attack was coming and trying to eliminate his threats first. He just guessed wrong about which direction it would come from.
What happened after
Season 7, which rolled out in 2025, plays out the power vacuum: Nuck runs the streets Douda built, new players circle the throne, and the neighborhood learns that removing a king doesn't remove the crown.
For the record: Douda outlived nearly every rival the show ever gave him — and was undone by the one man who knew exactly how he operated. He taught Nuck everything. That was the mistake.
