What happened to Kiesha on The Chi?
Kiesha Williams (Birgundi Baker) spent The Chi's first two seasons as Kevin's older sister, a track standout with a scholarship offer and a plan to leave the South Side. Season 3 rewrote all of it.

Here's what happened
In season 3 (2020), Kiesha is abducted from a bus stop by Omari (Cedric Mays), a man from her own neighborhood, and held captive in his basement for weeks, where she is raped. She kills him in self-defense and escapes in episode 7, "A Stain." She later learns she's pregnant, keeps the baby, and builds a life as a teacher — and in the series finale, she marries Emmett.
The arc, season by season
- Season 3, episode 2 — Kiesha doesn't come home. Her mother Nina goes to the police and gets brushed off; stepmother Dre starts searching on her own.
- Season 3, episode 5 — Viewers learn she's alive and held captive. She breaks through a door and is dragged back inside.
- Season 3, episode 6 — Omari's monologue supplies his motive: a rejection in high school.
- Season 3, episode 7, "A Stain" — She kills Omari and gets out, with help from Ronnie.
- Season 4 — Pregnant by her captor, she weighs adoption by Octavia, then keeps the baby and names him Ronnie.
Why the writers went there
The season was reshaped after Jason Mitchell's firing and Tiffany Boone's exit, and the show cut its detective characters. Baker told Variety in 2020 that she researched real missing-persons cases and prepared for weeks; she also asked producers directly why Kiesha, and got the same answer the script gives. On the aftermath, she told TVLine in 2020:
"She questions everyone after this."
Baker filmed the basement scenes in chronological order, and Mays was kept away from her between setups.
Where she ended up
Kiesha spent seasons 4 through 8 as a teacher and mother, on-and-off with Emmett (Jacob Latimore), then engaged in season 8. The series finale, "The Last Dance," hit Paramount+ on July 24, 2026 and Showtime on July 26 — the two of them married in Shaad's backyard, with Kevin and Nina turning up and Tiff standing as a bridesmaid after a late reconciliation.
For the record: Baker has been in The Chi since the 2018 pilot and was in the final scene of the last episode, eight seasons and 88 episodes later. Very few of the original cast can say that.
