Wanda’s MCU fate and the chances of a Scarlet Witch return in Avengers: Doomsday

At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda Maximoff brought down Mount Wundagore and the Darkhold’s temple in a blast of scarlet energy — no body shown, just a final flash of red. That cliffhanger has hung over the MCU ever since. Now, as the next Avengers movie is widely rumored to be titled Avengers: Doomsday, fans scanning early cast chatter and preview materials have noticed a glaring omission: no Scarlet Witch.

Marvel has not announced Elizabeth Olsen for Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel hasn’t confirmed Wanda’s return, and Elizabeth Olsen has said in past interviews that she hasn’t been contacted to reprise the role. Some recent “essential viewing” promos leading into the movie also didn’t single out WandaVision, which only fueled the speculation that the character might sit this chapter out — or that Marvel is keeping any appearance under wraps.

Where Wanda stands

Within the story, Wanda is officially presumed dead after destroying every copy of the Darkhold. Studio reference materials have framed it as a final sacrifice. But superhero rules being what they are, the no-body exit — and that burst of red chaos magic — leaves the door cracked open. Layer on top the heavy rumor mill around Doctor Doom, Latveria and mysticism in Doomsday, and you get a character whose absence feels conspicuous.

How she could return

If Wanda isn’t part of the main Doomsday lineup, there are still clean ways to thread her back into the Multiverse Saga. A few possibilities fans keep circling:

• An end-credits stinger in Avengers: Doomsday — revealing Wanda as Doom’s prisoner, pawn or unexpected ally.
• The planned Vision series (often referred to as “Vision Quest”) — following White Vision’s search for identity, with room for Wanda flashbacks, a post-credits beat, or a tease involving Wiccan and Speed.
• Avengers: Secret Wars — drawing from comics like The Children’s Crusade, putting Wanda’s reality-warping at the center of a Battleworld-style showdown, or introducing a multiversal Scarlet Witch variant.

For now, Wanda’s status is exactly where Marvel seems to want it: unconfirmed. If she returns as the Earth-616 Scarlet Witch seeking redemption — or as a brand-new variant from somewhere else in the multiverse — the next firm checkpoint on the calendar is Avengers: Secret Wars.
