Viral screenshot shows Jessica Chastain and Jeremy Strong trolling each other: 'You Look So Sad'
Jessica Chastain couldn’t resist needling Jeremy Strong via a viral screenshot, kicking off a cheeky exchange fans are devouring.
Jessica Chastain turned a weekend box office face-off into a private joke by posting her text thread with longtime friend Jeremy Strong on Instagram Stories. Strong kicked it off by sending her a Vulture headline — “‘Other Mommy’ Spanks ‘The Social Reckoning’ at the Box Office.” Chastain replied “Omg,” and Strong shot back with a middle-finger emoji and a kiss, before the two started clowning on the side-by-side photos that ran with the piece.
“These pics are hysterical.”
Chastain wrote about the images. Strong answered,
“Its so funny.”
Then Chastain landed the punchline:
“You look SO SAD!”
The dig works because it taps right into Strong’s public image after Succession — that instantly recognizable Kendall Roy thousand-yard stare that the internet has practically turned into its own genre of memes.
Box office weekend
Chastain’s horror movie Other Mommy opened at No. 1 with $27.5 million. Made for about $18 million and released by Blumhouse and Universal, it outpaced expectations despite poor reviews and a D+ CinemaScore from opening-night audiences.
Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to The Social Network, The Social Reckoning, debuted to $5.5 million, short of the projected $7–8 million range. The film centers on a Facebook whistleblower and the journalist who pursues the story, with Strong portraying Mark Zuckerberg.
- Mikey Madison — a Facebook engineer who leaks internal documents
- Jeremy Allen White — the reporter who receives the leak
- Jeremy Strong — Mark Zuckerberg
Sorkin told The New York Times that Strong leaned into his method approach on set, keeping some distance between takes to mirror how he felt Zuckerberg would interact with people.
“You cannot argue with the results.”
