Tommy & Tuppence cast guide: Agatha Christie’s classic gets a modern take
Tommy & Tuppence has tapped three familiar faces to bring Agatha Christie’s classic sleuths into modern-day London.
Former flames Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley run into each other at a lavish London wedding after nearly a decade apart — and the night ends with a guest dead. He’s a blocked crime novelist; she’s an actress who barrels through obstacles. When an old friend is named the prime suspect, the pair decide to dig in themselves, reigniting both their investigative spark and the chemistry they never quite left behind.
Guiding — and sometimes corralling — their comeback is Aunt Ada, a retired private eye with little patience for dithering, played by Imelda Staunton. Stirring the pot further is Julius, a charismatic film producer and Tuppence’s husband in this update, determined to win her back and complicate whatever is rekindling with Tommy.
Who’s who
- Antonia Thomas — Tuppence Cowley, a force‑of‑nature actress who refuses to take no for an answer (The Good Doctor).
- Josh Dylan — Tommy Beresford, a once‑hot crime writer who’s lost his spark (The Buccaneers).
- Imelda Staunton — Aunt Ada, Tommy’s formidable great‑aunt and a seasoned, retired private detective.
- Nicholas Richardson — Julius, a smooth film producer and Tuppence’s husband, intent on winning her back.
- Charlie Condou — Albert.
- Callie Cooke — Detective Sergeant Draper, a smart, idealistic cop who openly admires Tommy.
- Chizzy Akudolu — Detective Inspector Merriot, a sharp, no‑nonsense counterweight to the amateur sleuths.
- Fola Evans-Akingbola — Tatiana.
- Lucie Shorthouse — Mary (Peaky Blinders, Red Dwarf, Extraordinary).
- Della Saba — Lina Weaver (The End of the F***ing World, Black Mirror, The Power).
- Alara‑Star Khan — Hetty Copleigh.
- Alexa Davies — Fran (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Raised by Wolves, Dead Pixels).
Set in present‑day London, the six‑episode run blends red herrings and razor‑sharp banter with a will‑they/won’t‑they throughline. As the cases pile up, Aunt Ada’s old‑school instincts meet the duo’s off‑the‑books style, while working with Tuppence nudges Tommy’s writing mojo back to life.
