To challenge Netflix’s football podcast dominance, Disney+ signs The Overlap
Disney+ just inked an exclusive deal to bolster its sports podcast roster—here’s who’s joining.
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville’s digital network The Overlap is teaming up with Disney+ for the 2026 –27 soccer season in the UK and Ireland. The streamer will serve as headline sponsor on The Overlap’s flagship chat show Stick to Football and a new companion series, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, with fresh episodes rolling out weekly and extra content landing exclusively on Disney+.
What’s in the deal
- Stick to Football — 40 new episodes across Disney+ and The Overlap’s YouTube, including 20 temporary Disney+ exclusives and 6 regional specials.
- Stick to United with Wayne Rooney — 50 episodes, with extended cuts available only on Disney+.
Who’s on the mic
- Stick to Football — Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, Ian Wright, and Roy Keane.
- Stick to United with Wayne Rooney — Wayne Rooney alongside content creator Mark Goldbridge breaking down Manchester United.
Neville stressed that the shows won’t disappear from their existing free channels, even as Disney+ adds exclusives and longer cuts.
“Our community will continue to enjoy our content in exactly the way they always have through YouTube, while at the same time Disney+’s incredible global streaming audience will now be able to discover and enjoy it too,” he said, via a Disney+ press release.
He added that partnering with a major entertainment platform is about widening the audience for athlete-led conversation.
“We’re creating an opportunity to introduce our shows to millions of new viewers globally. We believe that’s a genuinely exciting step forward for both The Overlap and Disney+.”
Disney+ outlined weekly premieres in the UK and Ireland: Stick to United starts August 18, with Stick to Football following on August 20. U.S. availability wasn’t announced.
