Teen Mom Star Tyler Baltierra Reveals the Private Way He Keeps in Touch with Daughter Carly

That’s Tyler, 34, on the Monday, April 27 episode of the 'Cake For Dinner' podcast, talking about his current connection with Carly, who’s now 16. He said he and Catelynn, also 34, set up an email account for Carly. They write to it whenever they’re thinking about her — sometimes including photos of her younger sisters — as a way to leave a record she can access later. To be clear, that’s not a back-and-forth with Carly right now; it’s more of a time-capsule inbox they hope to hand over if and when she wants it.

How we got here

• 2009: Catelynn gave birth to Carly at 16, during their '16 & Pregnant' episode. Carly was adopted shortly after by Brandon and Teresa Davis. It started as an open adoption.
• 2015: Tyler and Catelynn got married.
• They’ve since had three daughters they’re raising together: Novalee (now 11), Vaeda (7), and Rya (4).
• 2023: Brandon and Teresa closed the adoption, which sharply limited contact. That’s why the email time capsule exists — it’s basically the only channel Tyler and Catelynn can control.
• January (on 'Teen Mom: The Next Chapter'): Catelynn said their adoption counselor, Dawn, told them Brandon and Teresa had blocked Catelynn for their own mental health. She also said Teresa told the counselor they aren’t allowed to send gifts anymore, calling it uncalled for. Tyler pushed back on the broader situation on camera, saying they might be raising Carly, but he still has a right to tell his own story.

What Tyler wants going forward
