Just weeks after The Housemaid’s theatrical debut, a sequel is in the works, reuniting Sydney Sweeney and the original creative team. The first film, based on Freida McFadden’s novel, grossed $133 million worldwide.

Less than a month after its theatrical release, a follow-up to the psychological thriller starring Sydney Sweeney has been greenlit. The Housemaid, adapted from Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, centers on Millie, a woman with a complicated history who accepts a live-in position with a wealthy family harboring their own secrets. Amanda Seyfried portrays Nina Winchester, Millie’s enigmatic employer.

The film has quickly become a box office sensation, raking in $133 million globally since its December 19 premiere, far surpassing its $35 million production budget. While critics have offered mixed opinions, the movie currently boasts a Certified Fresh rating of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sequel Announced With Returning Cast and Crew

The next installment will draw from McFadden’s sequel novel, The Housemaid’s Secret, following Millie as she takes on a new job with another family. Sydney Sweeney is set to reprise her role, joined again by Michele Morrone, who played Enzo, the Winchesters’ groundskeeper. Director Paul Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine are also returning for the project, with filming scheduled to begin later this year.

Paul Feig shared his excitement about the project, stating,

It ’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew. We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”

The upcoming sequel promises to continue Millie’s journey as she navigates new challenges and uncovers fresh secrets in her latest role. With the original cast and creative team on board, fans can expect the same suspenseful storytelling that made the first film a hit.
