Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken over a historic Avengers: Endgame box office milestone — but which crown has it actually swiped?

The Thursday rush was massive: according to DiscussingFilm, Spider- Man: Brand New Day pulled in $74.5 million from U.S. previews that began at 12 PM, a figure that leapfrogs the all-time preview marks set by two modern juggernauts, Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Deadline had initially pegged Thursday at north of $50 million without a final tally; the updated total plants Spidey at the top of the preview leaderboard.

$74.5 million in U.S. Thursday previews — the biggest in box-office history.

Here’s where the new number lands among the preview heavyweights:

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day$74.5M (previews began at 12 PM)
  • Avengers: Endgame$60M (previews began at 6 PM)
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens$57M (Thursday night)

Fuel in the tank

The record preview comes on the back of about $80 million in advance ticket sales for the Tom Holland – and Zendaya- led tentpole, which carries a reported $225 million net production cost. With that kind of presale momentum, the front-loaded rush to early shows tracks.

Early scores are sky-high

Out of the nine live-action Spider-Man movies, Brand New Day currently sports the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score at 98%. Critics have it at 90% Certified Fresh, a tick below Spider-Man: No Way Home’s 93% but firmly in raves territory.

If the pace holds, that reception puts the film in range to chase the benchmarks set by No Way Home$800 million domestic and nearly $2 billion worldwide. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.
