After seasons of will-they-won’t-they on Southern Hospitality, Joe Bradley and Maddi Reese finally turn their best-friend bond into romance in season 3 — a shift Joe had wanted for years, he told Us Weekly in December 2024.

Joe Bradley and Maddi Reese have been the slow-burn of Southern Hospitality: coworkers, best friends, years of mixed signals, a very Vegas 'wedding' that turned out not to be real, and now real-life friction playing out on TV. Here’s the full ride, with all the messy detours.

The timeline, start to (current) chaos

  • November 2022 — We meet Joe and Maddi on Southern Hospitality, clocking in at Republic Garden & Lounge in Charleston as VIP servers. Maddi is also DJing sets at the bar. At this point, it ’s all friendly vibes on camera, but not exactly the full story.
  • January 2023 — In season 1, episode 8, Joe finally says out loud that he’s got feelings for Maddi, even though she’s on-and-off with Trevor Stokes. That confession sparks a Joe-vs-Trevor showdown, plus blowback from Maddi and coworker Mia Alario, who call him out for getting too cozy while Maddi’s still in that relationship mess.
  • February 2023 — Joe posts a photo of them and calls Maddi his 'work wife' on Instagram. Not subtle.
  • December 2023 — Maddi confirms she’s single after the Trevor saga (season 2 tracks two cheating scandals and a lot of whiplash). She tells Us Weekly she’s focusing on herself, wants 'no drama for a couple of months,' and is trying to manifest a stable home base.
  • January 2024 — After crossing paths at BravoCon in November, Joe sparks a thing with Summer House’s Danielle Olivera. Then Us reports he was spotted getting cozy with Luann de Lesseps at a NYC hotel. Joe denies anything happened… and later admits they kissed. By month’s end he says he’s pressing the brakes with Danielle; she confirms in February they’re done.
  • February 2024 — Post–season 2 reunion, Joe and Maddi start hanging out. Joe later says he hasn’t been with or kissed anyone since 'last winter around February.'
  • April 2024 — They make it official as boyfriend and girlfriend in mid-April, just before cameras fire up for season 3. Maddi’s honest about being uneasy getting back into a relationship so fast; they’re figuring it out in real time.
  • July 2024 — The cast hits Las Vegas for Maddi’s DJ gig. That’s also the weekend Joe and Maddi do the Elvis-chapel 'wedding' — the one teased in the season 3 trailer. Was it legal? No. Was it very them? Yes. Joe calls it an epic way to show his love and shut up the doubters.
  • December 2024 — Joe says he’s had feelings for Maddi for years and that most of their friends told him it would never happen. Timing finally lined up once she was single and ready to try again.
'I really have had feelings for her for years, but we were also best friends.'
They say they’re happy, and Joe adds he gave her the time and space to make a safe decision to actually date him. Maddi says the risk was worth taking.
  • January 2025 — Season 3 premieres and they officially confirm they’re together. Maddi explains why she didn’t hook up with Joe sooner: their friend TJ Dinch had been spreading a rumor about Joe’s sexuality years back, and it messed with her head. Meanwhile, Joe worries on camera that Maddi might outgrow Charleston and leave him in the dust. He tells her his ultimate dream is a family with her someday, and she’s on the same page.
'My ultimate dream is to have a family with you.'
  • March 2025 — Joe says being a reality TV couple is daunting — he’s watched favorites implode — but he’s not scared for them. He thinks they’re a 'special case' because they were best friends first and the timing finally clicked.
  • April 2025 — Coachella: Joe’s 'rookie year.' He and Maddi hang with The Valley’s Scheana Shay and Brock Davies.
  • July 2025 — Fourth of July in the Hamptons.
  • December 2025 — Snow trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado: horses, slopes, the whole winter postcard.
  • April 2026 — Season 4 hits a snag for the couple. In an episode filmed in 2025 and aired April 8, Maddi says Joe told her he was working at Republic the night before, but his location showed he was at another bar. She’s been sober since she was a teenager, and she’s blunt: she supports his business grind, not the nights out that look like benders. Joe pushes back — says he went home at 11 p.m., didn’t claim he’d be at work, and thinks she’s spiraling. It gets ugly: he says it’s 'in your f***ing head'; she calls it gaslighting. Maddi tells a friend this is the first time she’s more worried about her boyfriend getting wasted than cheating, and it’s triggering her sobriety. She says they may need space and questions whether she can be with 'the town drunk.' Joe storms off insisting he’s done nothing wrong.

So where are they now?

The short version: they’re still together after that not-legal Vegas 'I do' and everything season 3 threw at them, but season 4 is testing the foundation. Between old rumors, career ambitions, and Maddi’s sobriety boundaries colliding with Joe’s nightlife habits, this isn’t just a bar shift drama — it’s their real life on blast. If you’ve been watching since the Republic days, none of this is boring. Messy? Absolutely. But not boring.
