It's time to mark your calendars.

We tell you about the major series premieres of the first month of the year, including the long-awaited return of Severance, an animated series about the everyday heroics of Peter Parker and a thriller produced by Ridley Scott.

1. Prime Target

Release Date: January 22, 2025

Streaming Platform: Apple TV+

Apple TV+'s big January release is a Ridley Scott-produced conspiracy thriller about a math student who uses prime numbers to uncover a pattern that allows him to hack every computer in the world.

Naturally, a global manhunt ensues, with a national security agent called in to rescue the shocked young man. Showrunner is Steve Thompson, the writer behind some of the best episodes of Sherlock.

2. Severance Season 2

Release Date: January 17, 2025

Streaming Platform: Apple TV+

For three long years, we've been waiting for the second season of Severance, the unexpected Apple TV+ hit. The series is impossible to recommend to friends because of its absurd concept.

In a company, you can separate your personal memories from your work memories – then the employee splits into two personalities: one person in the office and a completely different one outside of it.

The creators not only managed to hook the audience with such a plot, but also developed it into a paranoid thriller full of secrets. Little is known about the new episodes, but the main thing is that new faces will appear, including Gwendoline Christie, known to many for her role of Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones.

3. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Release Date: January 29, 2025

Streaming Platform: Disney+

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a series about an alternative Marvel universe: everything seems to be as usual – Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider, the young man begins to explore his newfound powers, but the difference is that the mentor of the future hero is not Tony Stark, but Norman Osborn.

Compared to Sony's colorful and experimental animations, the series looks a bit faded, but Disney still believes in the project: the company invited Colman Domingo, Hugh Dancy and Charlie Cox to voice the characters, and also renewed the show for a second season.

4. American Primeval

Release Date: January 9, 2025

Streaming Platform: Netflix

The show will tell about the barbaric conditions on the frontier in the mid-19th century: in places of lawlessness and harsh climate, several groups of people confront each other for the sake of survival.

The creators promise a lot of action and bold reflections on religion, which many people used to hide their misdeeds. In any case, viewers will admire the stellar cast: the main roles in the miniseries are played by Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Jai Courtney, Shea Whigham and Dane DeHaan.

5. Asura

Release Date: January 9, 2025

Streaming Platform: Netflix

Asura is the third adaptation of Kuniko Mukoda's novel about four sisters who learn of their father's infidelity. When the truth becomes public and leaves its mark on the family, the women do everything they can to hide the information from their mother.

Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda is a master of stories about complex family dynamics, and it is no coincidence that Mukoda's novel has been adapted several times. Audiences can expect a mix of comedy and historical drama that will definitely appeal to fans of Bad Sisters.
