DC Studios is summoning Constantine again — and Keanu Reeves’ supernatural detective might answer the call.

DC is quietly building out its creepier side: per Deadline, DC Studios has hired filmmaker Francis Galluppi to write a new John Constantine movie. It ’s very early days — no director, star or release plan yet — but the move lands as DC’s horror- leaning Clayface has passed $90 million worldwide, a sign the studio’s supernatural lane is back in play.

DC Studios has tapped Francis Galluppi to write a new John Constantine movie.

Galluppi made waves with the lean, nerve-jangling crime thriller The Last Stop in Yuma County. His next step up the ladder is Evil Dead: Wrath — the seventh entry in the franchise and his first major studio outing — which is slated to hit theaters in April 2028. His knack for grounded menace and slow-burn dread lines up cleanly with Constantine’s street-level occult chaos.

Created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben, Constantine first appeared in The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 in 1985. Better known to comics readers as Hellblazer, he’s a working-class British occult detective who solves problems with magic, manipulation, and a moral compass that doesn’t always point north — where a routine case can turn into a deal with something you don’t want to meet twice.

So where does Keanu fit?

The big variable is Keanu Reeves . He headlined 2005’s Francis Lawrence-directed Constantine, a stylized take that’s since grown a loyal following. Reeves has said for years he wants back in, and a sequel with Lawrence and writer Akiva Goldsman has been batted around. James Gunn said in October 2025 that he’d talked with Reeves about “Constantine 2,” but he hadn’t read a script at the time. Galluppi’s assignment doesn’t clarify whether this is a continuation of that version or a new start, and it’s also unclear if the film would live inside the main DCU or under the studio’s Elseworlds banner.

Where it stands now

  • Writer: Francis Galluppi (no director or cast announced)
  • Status: very early development at DC Studios
  • Universe placement: DCU vs. Elseworlds TBD
  • Keanu Reeves: interest long expressed; involvement unconfirmed
  • Timing: no date for Constantine; Galluppi’s Evil Dead: Wrath is set for April 2028
