Scott Eastwood sets the record straight on chatter about Clint Eastwood’s retirement.

Rumors started flying that Clint Eastwood had ridden off into the sunset for good. Not quite. Scott Eastwood says his dad has not personally called time on his career, so maybe hold the farewell speeches.

What actually happened

A clip from a November interview resurfaced recently where Kyle Eastwood — the third oldest of Clint Eastwood's eight kids, and a bassist/film composer — casually talked about his father retiring while speaking to French outlet France Info. That was enough to kick up a new round of 'Is this it for Clint?' headlines.

Scott Eastwood weighs in

Scott, in a new chat with Screen Rant, pushed back on the idea that a decision has been made. His read is pretty simple:

'We will see. I have not heard that from his mouth at all. So I do not know what that feels like. His career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me.'

Translation: if Clint has officially retired, he has not told his own son.

Where Clint is right now

Clint turned 96 on May 31. And even in his 90s he has worked more consistently than plenty of filmmakers half his age. His latest directing effort, the courtroom drama 'Juror No. 2', arrived in 2024 — just a few months after he turned 94 — which naturally had people wondering whether that might be his last bow. Per Scott, do not count on that being definitive.

Quick tour of the career that built the legend

  • First credited film appearance: 1955's 'Francis in the Navy'.
  • TV breakout: 'Rawhide' (1959–1965) as Rowdy Yates.
  • Big-screen icon status: the 'Man with No Name' in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, including 'A Fistful of Dollars' (1964).
  • Director debut: 1971's psychological thriller 'Play Misty for Me'.
  • Since then: more than 40 directing credits and over 60 acting roles.
  • Awards haul: 12 Oscar nominations total, with 4 wins.
  • Some of the heavy hitters: 'Unforgiven', 'Million Dollar Baby', 'Mystic River', 'The Bridges of Madison County', 'American Sniper'.
  • Fun bit of trivia: in 'Gran Torino' (2008), the young guy getting worked over in that tense scene? That is Scott Eastwood, which adds an extra little jolt to an already gnarly moment.

Bottom line

Despite the chatter sparked by Kyle's offhand comment, there is no official retirement from Clint Eastwood — at least not according to Scott, who says he has heard nothing of the sort directly from his dad. At 96, every new project would be a bonus, but for now, it is not goodbye.
