Clayface star Tom Rhys Harries has one DC baddie in mind for the next villain-led movie — and it’s probably not who you’re thinking.

On the red carpet at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles, where Clayface held its premiere on October 13, star Tom Rhys Harries didn’t hesitate when asked who should front DC ’s next villain movie. He went straight to Scarecrow—and even sketched out the tone he wants to see.

“Scarecrow would be pretty cool,”

Harries told Deadline, before tossing out a mind-bending pitch.

“You could do some kind of like Inception the audience don’t know what’s real kind of thing.”

That approach leans into what makes Scarecrow such a lasting Batman foe: a psychologist who weaponizes fear toxins to scramble your reality, he’s tailor-made for a psychological thriller that blurs the line between hallucination and truth—for the characters and the audience.

Why Scarecrow fits

Harries’ pick also tracks with the energy of Clayface, which DC describes as the story of an up-and-coming Hollywood actor ’s grotesque transformation and the fallout from obsession, identity loss, and dangerous science. It ’s a horror lane where Scarecrow already lives, just through a different prism.

  • Obsession — brilliance curdled into fixation
  • Isolation — professional or academic bubbles that warp judgment
  • Loss of humanity — ambition stripping away what’s left of the person
  • Different paths, same nightmare — Clayface’s vanity/body horror vs. Scarecrow’s clinical psychology/weaponized fear

Harries’ comments came during a Deadline chat at the Clayface premiere on October 13 at the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles.
