Joe Keery says he finally took the Broadway plunge thanks to a nudge from a familiar name.

Before stepping onto a Broadway stage for the first time, Joe Keery says the strongest push came from someone who knows that world cold: Sadie Sink . Asked about which Stranger Things castmates had stage advice, he told People that Sink — who played Max opposite his Steve — was the one in his ear.

“[Sadie] had some good words of advice and really kind of urged me to do it, ” Keery said. “She thought I would have a nice time.”

Keery is now playing Trip Wyeth — the easygoing youngest son caught between his parents and older sister — in Other Desert Cities at the Hudson Theatre . He’s sharing the stage with an all-star lineup:

  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus
  • Allison Janney
  • Ed Harris
  • Lily Rabe

Sink’s encouragement comes with receipts. People notes she made her Broadway debut as a kid in the 2012 revival of Annie, later appeared opposite Helen Mirren in The Audience, and earned a Tony nomination in 2025 for John Proctor Is the Villain. Keery said he caught up with her in London ahead of her Romeo & Juliet opening, and he’s also been trading notes with Gaten Matarazzo, who’s starring in a West End revival of Rent.

What’s next

Keery is set for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, October 26, appearing alongside Billy Crystal. Music remains in the mix too: as Djo, he released his third album, The Crux, in April 2025. He told People he has no immediate plans to do a musical onstage, but he isn’t ruling it out.

As for the superhero chatter, online speculation has linked Keery to possible MCU turns as Harry Osborn or Nova; none of it’s confirmed. He addressed the fan casting in February 2026, saying timing tends to sort itself out, and Spider- Man: Brand New Day arrived without him — leaving those rumors squarely in the “maybe someday” column.

The Broadway engagement is scheduled to run through January 17, 2027 .
