Zack Snyder isn’t calling Rebel Moon 3 a sure thing—and the franchise’s fate could hinge on fan interest.

Asked point-blank if a third chapter is happening, Zack Snyder didn’t pretend to have an answer. Speaking to The Direct while promoting The Last Photograph, he tied any future of his Netflix space saga to whether audiences rally around what’s already out there — including the longer cuts.

“I do not know.”

He added that the R-rated director ’s cuts could still find new viewers — and maybe change the math.

“There’s a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one.”

Both Rebel Moon films arrived on Netflix to rough reviews, and even the extended versions — which Snyder has said are closer to his original vision — didn’t reverse the perception in a big way. As of now, no third film has been announced.

What exists so far

  • Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire (Netflix)
  • Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver (Netflix)
  • R-rated “director’s cuts” of both films, released after the PG-13 versions

Last year, co-writer Kurt Johnstad said outlines for movies three through six were already on paper, while Snyder told Variety he was content to let the world “boil” as he worked on a Los Angeles Police Department SWAT movie for Netflix. The tone now is more cautious: if there’s a Part Three, it ’ll be because viewers pushed it there.

On Superman and James Gunn

In a separate chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder said he hasn’t watched James Gunn’s Superman, framing it as a personal choice and stressing he wants Gunn to succeed. He said he trusts Gunn’s taste, pushing back on any internet-manufactured rivalry between them.

Snyder also hasn’t checked out other new DC projects like Supergirl and Lanterns. He did reveal Gunn once asked him about bringing back Superman’s red trunks. Snyder tried plenty of versions during Man of Steel and couldn’t make them work; David Corenswet ultimately persuaded Gunn that the trunks made the suit feel friendlier.

For now, Snyder’s stance on Rebel Moon 3 is simple: if the audience grows — especially for the director’s cuts — the door’s open. If not, those sequel outlines stay in the drawer.
