Ransom Canyon: what happens to Davis?
Davis Collins was everywhere in Ransom Canyon season 1, then vanished for season 2. Here's what the Netflix series says became of him, what the showrunner said about writing the character out, and why that explanation is now the last word on the subject.
Davis Collins spent all ten episodes of Ransom Canyon season 1 needling Staten Kirkland and courting Quinn O'Grady, then didn't appear in season 2 at all. Netflix didn't kill him off — it did something considerably less dramatic.
The short version: Davis leaves town. His exit is handled in a conversation between Quinn and Ellie in the season 2 premiere, roughly two minutes of dialogue covering a character who'd been a series regular a year earlier.
Where season 1 left him
Season 1, which premiered April 17, 2025, ended with Davis and his ex-wife Paula Jo (Meta Golding) exposed for their scheming to run the Austin Water and Power pipeline through Staten's land. Davis also broke up with Quinn in the finale, and — in a move the show never revisits — deliberately goaded Staten into punching him so that Sam Kirkland could use the incident to prove his son unfit to serve as trustee of the Double K.
Their son Reid (Andrew Liner) ended the season stepping aside so Lauren Brigman could be with Lucas Russell.
What season 2 actually says
Season 2 picks up six months later, with Quinn returning from New York. Ellie (Marianly Tejada) catches her up, and the pipeline turns out to have been a bust for everybody, Davis included.
"Once the pipeline was in, [Austin Water and Power] cut bait," Ellie tells her — the money dried up and half a dozen ranches folded.
Davis was one of the ranchers who cashed out and left. He's in Austin. Paula Jo is there too, and is described as reconciling with him. Reid is a student at Texas A&M. That's the whole account. No flashback, no phone call, no Eoin Macken.

Why Eoin Macken left
Deadline reported on September 22, 2025 — with season 2 already in production — that Macken and Liner wouldn't be back as series regulars. Showrunner April Blair later gave TVLine a straightforward creative reason, and it had to do with the load Davis was carrying.
Blair's read: Macken was playing the show's antagonist and one of its two romantic leads at the same time, and by the end of season 1 nobody was rooting for Quinn to end up with him.
The vacated space went elsewhere. Season 2 brought in Patricia Clarkson as Quinn's mother Claire, Steve Howey as Staten's half-brother Levi, Ben Robson as Quinn's new love interest Oliver, and Heidi Grace Engerman as Yancy Grey's wife Sidney. Thomas Rhett and Jordan Davis turn up as themselves.
So he's out there somewhere
For most of the summer, "Davis is in Austin" looked like a parking space rather than an ending — the discovery of oil on Fuller Ranch left an obvious hook for a man who takes money over neighbors.
That hook is now permanent. Netflix canceled Ransom Canyon on September 10, 2026, about seven weeks after the eight-episode second season premiered on July 23. Deadline reported the season opened to 4.1 million views in its first week, down 43 percent from season 1's 7.2 million.
Eighteen episodes, two seasons, and Davis Collins gets no scene at all. He does get the money.
