Praised as a brutal, lean epic, The Punisher: One Last Kill Special Presentation brings back Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle for a relentless gauntlet against a staggering swarm of enemies—ditching Marvel’s usual mega-cast to put one man’s war front and center.

I know, Marvel usually loves a giant ensemble. This one is not that. 'The Punisher: One Last Kill' is being talked up as a lean, nasty, brutal epic where Jon Bernthal 's Frank Castle steamrolls through a ton of enemies, but the roster of actual Marvel characters is surprisingly small. The special only adds five new comic-book players to the MCU, and they are not background extras. Plus, at least one familiar face from the Netflix era shows up, with more rumored. It streams tonight on Disney+.

The big swing: Ma Gnucci arrives

Judith Light — yes, from 'One Life to Live', 'Who's the Boss?', 'Ugly Betty', and 'Poker Face' — is playing Ma Gnucci, the infamous Garth Ennis-era Punisher villain. On the page, Ma is the unforgiving matriarch of a crime family Frank annihilated. She went scorched-earth in response, throwing mercs and bounty hunters at him, culminating in a showdown at a zoo where the Punisher fed her to polar bears. Extremely Ennis.

The MCU take is keeping some of that DNA but not all the gore. In the comics, Ma ends up wheelchair-bound and missing limbs; a wheelchair has been spotted on set, but this version appears to have all her parts. File that under: faithful, but not quite as feral.

"I think people will be surprised. This is really about transformation and what it means to be a person who holds on to revenge. "

- Judith Light on The Today Show

The Gnucci family, clarified

Marvel has lined up the Gnucci clan around her. Four family members are confirmed here, matching the Ennis run: Ma's brother Dino Gnucci (a guy Frank takes out in the comics even with Daredevil trying to stop him), plus her three sons Eddie, Bobbie, and Carlo — the Gnucci boys. In this special, those sons have apparently already been killed by the Punisher, just like in the source material. If you saw the name listed as 'Gucci' somewhere, that is a typo; it is Gnucci.

Bernthal's path through the MCU

Jon Bernthal has been Frank Castle since his 2016 debut in 'Daredevil' season 2, and he made the jump into the mainline MCU in 2025 with 'Daredevil: Born Again' season 1. 'One Last Kill' is designed as connective tissue between iterations — the Netflix-rooted vigilante you know and the MCU presence Marvel is pushing forward. Next stop after this: 'Spider- Man: Brand New Day ', where he looks to be protecting Sadie Sink 's mystery character (the rumor mill is loudly whispering 'Jean Grey,' but that is not confirmed).

Confirmed players (and where they fit)

  • Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher — back in full, bruising form; this special bridges his Netflix history and his current MCU run, and sets up his role in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.
  • Judith Light as Ma Gnucci — the Ennis-era crime boss out for revenge; comics history includes a wheelchair and a very messy fate at a zoo, while the MCU take appears less mutilated but equally vengeful.
  • Dino Gnucci — Ma's brother; in the comics, Punisher kills him even with Daredevil trying to intervene.
  • Eddie, Bobbie, and Carlo Gnucci — Ma's sons; as in the comics, they are apparently already dead by Frank's hand going into this special.
  • Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle — confirmed by the trailers; a former Navy SARC who lost a leg, he backed Frank in the Netflix series before they split. You might also know Moore from 'Sentinel', 'First Kill', and 'The Quad'.

So when can you watch it?

Marvel Studios pushed a tease on May 12, 2026 — 'Frank Castle's whereabouts remain unknown' — and then dropped the key bit: 'A Marvel Television Special Presentation: The Punisher: One Last Kill' streams tonight, only on Disney+.

Small cast, big body count. If you wanted Bernthal back in a story that hits hard and moves fast, this looks like exactly that.
