Paul Mescal, set to portray Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics, encourages audiences to steer clear of deep dives into the band’s history before the films’ 2028 release.

Paul Mescal, who will take on the role of Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated project, The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, has a unique request for fans. As the production gears up for its 2028 debut, Mescal is asking viewers to resist the urge to brush up on Beatles lore before heading to theaters.

In a recent conversation with Variety, Mescal kept details about his portrayal tightly under wraps.

“To be honest, I can say very little — actually contractually, but also I’m kind of keen to say very little about it, because I’m excited that people want to know so much about it,”

he explained, emphasizing his desire for audiences to come in with fresh eyes.

Cast and Creative Team Remain Tight-Lipped

Mescal isn’t alone in his excitement. He mentioned that he and his co-stars—Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn, who will play John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison—are still in awe of their roles.

“The four of us inside it are pinching ourselves,”

he shared, highlighting the surreal experience of stepping into the shoes of such legendary figures.

Despite the buzz, Mescal believes that keeping details scarce is the best approach for now.

“I don’t want to get into the Beatles thing, not coyly, but actually because I think the world hopefully will benefit from knowing as little as possible going into it.”

He also noted that filming is far from over, saying,

“We’re a while away from finishing. That’s my job for all of 2026,”

referencing his current work as William Shakespeare in Hamnet , which recently won ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama ’ at the 2026 Golden Globes.

Expanding the Beatles Universe On Screen

The ensemble cast for the biopics has grown beyond the core four. Saoirse Ronan is set to play Linda McCartney, while Aimee Lou Wood will portray Pattie Boyd. Mia McKenna-Bruce joins as Maureen Starkey, and Anna Sawai will take on the role of Yoko Ono. The supporting cast also includes David Morrissey as Jim McCartney, Leanne Best as Aunt Mimi, and James Norton as Brian Epstein, the band’s manager.

Rounding out the cast, Harry Lloyd will play producer George Martin, Bobby Schofield steps in as tour manager Neil Aspinall, Daniel Hoffman-Gill appears as Mal Evans, Arthur Darvill will portray press officer Derek Taylor, and Adam Pally is set to play manager Allen Klein. With such a robust lineup, the films promise to offer a comprehensive look at the people who shaped the Beatles’ journey.
