Oscar-winning ‘I’m Still Here’ anchors Netflix and Globo’s biggest-ever licensing pact
Brazil’s entertainment powerhouse is throwing open its vault to a streaming giant, putting acclaimed cinema and new stories within reach of a far bigger audience.
In a move that gives U.S. viewers a hefty dose of Brazilian storytelling, Netflix has licensed 18 titles from Rio-based powerhouse Globo in what the companies are calling their biggest deal together so far. The slate spans feature films, classic telenovelas and a series from a brand long known for exporting addictive melodramas around the world.
What’s in the package
- 14 feature films
- 3 telenovelas — including India — A Love Story (created by Glória Perez, directed by Marcos Schechtman), winner of the 2009 International Emmy
- 1 series
For anyone who’s ever sampled Globo’s hits, the inclusion of India — A Love Story (known in Brazil as Caminho das Índias) is the eye-catcher. The Emmy-winning telenovela blends cross-cultural romance with the sweeping, high-gloss style that helped make Globo a global export brand.
Release plan
Netflix won’t dump the entire library at once. The streamer plans a staggered rollout that starts at the end of 2026 and continues into the following year, effectively turning the deal into a months-long pipeline of Brazilian movies and TV.
The agreement also speaks to a broader shift on streaming: more licensed catalogs flowing between platforms as companies balance originals with proven library draws. For Globo, it ’s a way to put signature titles in front of new international audiences without abandoning its own streaming ambitions on Globoplay; for Netflix, it’s a ready-made infusion of Brazilian stories with built-in appeal.
The titles start arriving on Netflix in December 2026, with releases continuing through mid-2027.
