What happened Monday night
On Monday, April 6, the rapper (real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus) was shot near the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. A rep confirmed to Complex that he was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
"We can confirm Offset was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care. He is stable and being closely monitored."
TMZ first reported the incident. As of now, no one has gone on the record about what led up to the shooting.
What police are saying
- A Seminole Police spokesperson told Page Six the shooting happened after 7 p.m. Monday in a valet area outside Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.
- The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
- Two individuals were detained. The investigation is ongoing.
- Police said the situation was contained quickly, the site is secure, there is no threat to the public, and operations at the property are continuing as normal.
The bigger picture if you have been following Migos
It is impossible not to think about Takeoff here. He was killed in November 2022 at age 28 during a shooting in Houston that was reportedly tied to a high-stakes dice game. Quavo was present, and Takeoff — Kirsnick Khari Ball — was described as an innocent bystander caught in crossfire. Patrick Xavier Clark was indicted for Takeoff's murder in November 2022 and is awaiting trial; he maintains his innocence.
More than 20,000 people attended Takeoff's memorial at Atlanta's State Farm Arena, with Cardi B, Justin Bieber, and Drake among those there.
Offset later confirmed in 2023 that he and Quavo were formally disbanding Migos after Takeoff's death.
