Maya Hawke has a surprising take on the assumptions people make about her — and a reason she doesn’t bother correcting them.

Asked on Entertainment Tonight what people get wrong about her, Maya Hawke didn’t bother to mount a defense or list pet peeves. She waved off the whole premise with a shrug.

“I'm not that interested in setting any of it straight. I'd like people to hold tight to their misconceptions,”

She reasoned that chasing down strangers’ opinions can turn into an unhealthy obsession — and that whatever image people construct from interviews or red-carpet clips doesn’t touch her actual life. Hawke has also said she’s aware of the privilege that comes with being Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman’s daughter, even as she’s carved out her own path with Stranger Things , Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, and a run of indie-folk albums.

Into Panem next

Hawke’s next stop is Panem: she’ll play Wiress in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. In the new prequel, Wiress is a former victor who mentors District 12; fans last saw an older version of the character in Catching Fire, played by Amanda Plummer.
