Jennifer Lawrence won’t return as Mystique in Avengers: Doomsday—and the reason she’s tapping out is hard to argue with.

Asked point-blank in a new Allure interview if she’d ever slip back into Mystique’s blue skin, Jennifer Lawrence didn’t hedge. She answered with the kind of bluntness that made her a late-night talk show favorite.

“Never say never, but absolutely fucking not.”

Lawrence then spelled out why that door is closed: the hours of full-body paint and the frigid airbrushing that came with it. She joked that the process was “like seven airbrushes” going at once — a special kind of torture for someone who’s ticklish — and said enduring it taught her a whole lot of patience.

“Because you know how airbrushing is very cold? So it was like seven airbrushes all... I mean, and I’m ticklish, too.”

Katniss, however, is back

While Mystique is a no, Lawrence has confirmed she’s returning as Katniss Everdeen. On the Call Her Daddy podcast, she said she’ll be back in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is slated to hit theaters on November 20. She also talked about how emotional it was to reconnect with her Hunger Games family after years apart.

Two key alums are joining her for the reunion:

  • Josh Hutcherson — Peeta Mellark
  • Woody Harrelson — Haymitch Abernathy

Lawrence first played Mystique across four X-Men films, but it was Katniss — the girl with the bow and the braid — that turned her into a global phenomenon. Now she’s picking up that story again, with Sunrise on the Reaping set to arrive in theaters on November 20.
