New Alex Garland sci-fi film prompts a fact check on Robert Pattinson joining Zendaya

The latest round of Robert Pattinson chatter started with a post from Culture Cave on X that claimed he’d “confirmed” he’s joining Alex Garland’s next A24 sci‑fi movie with Zendaya —and even attached a one‑liner to him: “It ’s all about annoying Tom [Holland], really.” The line was tailor‑made to go viral, but there’s a hitch: there’s no verified casting news to back it up.

Trade outlets including Variety and TheWrap have reported that Zendaya is attached to star in Garland’s untitled A24 project. Neither outlet mentions Pattinson, and no official announcement from A24, Garland, or the film ’s producers has named him to the cast.

• Confirmed: Zendaya is set for an untitled A24 sci‑fi film from director Alex Garland.
• Not confirmed: Robert Pattinson’s involvement—no credible trade reporting or studio comment names him in the cast.
• Source of the rumor: a Culture Cave post on X that attributed a joking quote to Pattinson; the attribution has not been verified.

Garland, known for Ex Machina and this year’s Civil War, tends to keep plot details tight until he’s ready. If Pattinson ends up in the mix, it’ll come via the usual channels—studio or filmmaker confirmation, or a report from a reliable trade—none of which has happened yet.

Meanwhile, in Gotham

Separate from the A24 rumor mill, Pattinson’s next turn as Bruce Wayne hit a speed bump. Warner Bros. and DC Studios said The Batman Part II is on a temporary pause while director Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter, adding their support for the filmmaker.

“We’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out.”

That’s how Pattinson put it to Official Pop Drop while promoting Primetime. The sequel remains dated for February 18, 2028.
