BLACKPINK’s Jennie is crashing Cinderella’s ball with an original song for a Netflix project, adding a fresh wrinkle to the familiar fairy tale.

Jennie is lending her voice to “Someone to Hold,” an original track for Netflix ’s animated Cinderella remix Steps. It ’s her first song for an animated movie, produced and written by Grammy-nominated hitmaker Justin Tranter, who describes the track as vintage-inspired dance pop.

The song reveal arrived alongside a new trailer released October 15, which sets up a chaotic twist on the fairy tale: stepsister Lilith nabs the Fairy Godmother’s wand, spells go sideways, and at one point a sister is turned into a frog. The movie leans into the tagline “At midnight, we ride.”

Soundtrack lineup

Tranter spearheads four original songs for the film. Alongside Jennie’s contribution, the trailer confirms performances from a mix of pop voices and cast members:

  • Jennie — “Someone to Hold”
  • Rose Gray — “Meet Me on the Dance Floor”
  • EMEI — “The Understudy”
  • Amanda Seyfried — “Smile and a Song”
“I love how much heart and personality the characters have, and I’m so happy I got to be a little part of their world. I hope you enjoy ‘Steps’ and ‘Someone to Hold’ as much as I do and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it,” Jennie said in a statement.

Cast and creative team

Directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, the film shifts the spotlight to Cinderella’s stepsisters, Lilith and Margot, and reframes who gets the fairy-tale glow-up. It’s also a milestone for Netflix Animation Studios as its first fully in-house-produced feature.

  • Ali Wong — Lilith (stepsister)
  • Stephanie Hsu — Margot (stepsister)
  • Amanda Seyfried — Cinderella
  • Bette Midler — Fairy Godmother
  • Daniel Radcliffe — voice role
  • Nikki Glaser — voice role
  • Young Mazino — voice role
  • Peter Dinklage — voice role

Steps and its soundtrack arrive November 20 on Netflix, with the album dropping the same day.
