Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reboot: release date, cast and everything we know so far

The new Little House on the Prairie premieres Thursday, July 9, 2026 on Netflix. Season 1 runs eight episodes and splits directing duties across Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland. This is a new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder's semi-autobiographical books, pitched as a blend of frontier survival, a warm-but-tough family drama, and a ground-zero story of the American West. Season 1 tracks with Wilder's Little House on the Prairie: after Pa decides to move the family from Wisconsin to Independence, Kansas, the Ingalls face the realities of building a life on contested land.

One key update: the show includes Osage characters, reflecting the book's encounters with Native people in the area settlers moved into. Given the cast list, expect that thread to be more than a background detail. Also, you will spot some new faces not pulled directly from the books, which hints at storylines the old TV version never touched.
