You’re getting another movie delay — and this time the South Park creators are saying it’s on them.

The mea culpa came quietly: Trey Parker and Matt Stone sent a note to industry outlet The Ankler owning the long delay on their untitled movie with Kendrick Lamar, acknowledging how long partners have been waiting and saying the holdup is on them.

“We take full responsibility for the schedule delay of this movie,” Parker and Stone said in a statement to The Ankler. “We apologize to our partners at pgLang and Paramount , and we appreciate their patience.”

According to The Ankler, the film quietly slipped off its planned release calendar again as Parker and Stone juggled ongoing South Park duties and personal factors. The project remains untitled and undated.

Details on the movie have trickled out largely through reporting rather than official announcements. The Ankler says the story follows a Black reenactor at a historical plantation museum who clashes with a racist small‑town mayor — a role Parker is reportedly playing himself — with original, unreleased music from Lamar woven through the film. Longtime collaborator Vernon Chatman wrote the script, and finishing work has been described as continuing behind the scenes by Park County and Lamar’s company pgLang.

Meanwhile, a “South Park” gag

As the movie news percolated, the duo’s day job stirred its own mini‑headline: a tongue‑in‑cheek “South America” rebrand popped up on the show’s social channels. It was a one‑off joke — the series’ title and branding aren’t changing — and the new season’s rollout stays the same.

Season 29 of South Park premieres September 16 on Comedy Central, with episodes streaming on Paramount+ the next day.
