A Texas couple decided to move to Wrexham, and Ryan Reynolds couldn’t resist—his hilarious message leaves one big question: what, exactly, did he say?
After binging Welcome to Wrexham, Jeff and Janice Ivey of New Braunfels, Texas, didn’t just book a vacation — they’re moving to North Wales. They’ve visited Wrexham seven times since their first trip in 2024; Jeff, who holds U.K. citizenship through Scottish ancestry, is already in town house-hunting while Janice stays stateside to sell their home and wait for her visa, according to the BBC.
The couple says they fell for the people and the heritage highlighted in the show — and Ryan Reynolds noticed. When the story made the rounds, the actor couldn’t resist a one-liner on X.
“Thank god they didn’t watch Chernobyl,” Reynolds said.
Their Wrexham obsession actually started with a merch mishap. After seeing an episode featuring local band Declan Swans, the Iveys ordered some gear; when there was an issue with the order, Jeff reached out and struck up a conversation with the band’s singer, Michael Hett, who encouraged them to visit. One visit turned into seven, and now a permanent move is underway.
The docuseries follows Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s 2021 purchase of Wrexham AFC — the world’s third-oldest professional football club — and their efforts to revive a team far from the Premier League. The show has ended up spotlighting the city itself as much as the club.
