In a new interview, Michelle Yeoh hinted at one Hunter Schafer set-piece in Blade Runner 2099 that, by her lights, veers from gutsy into properly bonkers.

On the Blade Runner 2099 panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Michelle Yeoh singled out co-star Hunter Schafer for the way she hurls herself into fight beats and physical moments, the kind that give this franchise its reputation for bone-rattling set pieces.

“I don't want to see her get hurt, especially when I saw how she threw herself, literally,”

Yeoh told Entertainment Tonight, adding that Schafer’s fearlessness had already made an impression. For a series that follows the beautifully bruising legacy of Deckard and K, Schafer’s all-in approach positions her as the show’s new human wrecking ball — in the best way.

Why Yeoh’s praise matters

Yeoh’s bar for action is sky-high. Before she was winning Oscars, she was redefining what a screen fighter could do — often by doing it herself.

  • Yes, Madam! — trained roughly eight hours a day and performed major stunts on her own early in her career.
  • Police Story 3: Supercop — famously launched a moving motorcycle onto a speeding train.
  • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon — worked through a serious knee injury (ACL) while filming.
  • Tomorrow Never Dies — turned Bond’s partner Wai Lin into a true equal in the action.
  • Everything Everywhere All at Once — proved her action instincts are as sharp as ever.

Yeoh and Schafer talked about stepping into the franchise’s physical legacy during the Blade Runner 2099 session at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2026 .
