Matthew McConaughey gets candid about one of life’s basic needs — and his confession is funnier than you’d think.

The Oscar winner didn’t just make a bathroom joke — he made a case study. While promoting Brothers , his Apple comedy series with Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey argued that a well-timed morning trip to the toilet can make you feel “a half-inch taller,” sharpen your thoughts and even make your eyes look bluer. He laid it all out with total sincerity during a ride on the podcast Subway Takes with Kareem Rahma.

“The most underrated part of a good day is dropping a good deuce in the AM,” McConaughey said on Subway Takes. “I mean, you get a half-inch taller. Your mind’s clearer. Thoughts are clicking. Eyes get bluer. Everything starts to work.”

Host Kareem Rahma, 40, admitted he himself was overdue, and McConaughey said he was in the same boat after a long trip from the West Coast and a restless night — warning the conversation might get a little edgy until nature called. He complained that people hide behind polite euphemisms and said digestive health deserves more straight talk; Rahma added that fiber matters more as you get older.

Marriage, not fireworks

On a different podcast appearance — Jay Shetty’s On Purpose — McConaughey pivoted from gut health to heart health, telling Shetty that couples shouldn’t expect the honeymoon phase to last forever. He admitted he “may not be romantic enough” about that early magic and said the day-to-day of marriage looks different once responsibility and kids enter the picture.

He compared new-love flash to a “100-watt bulb” — bright and exhausting — and long-term love to a steadier “30-watt” glow. Keeping that lower light humming, he said, comes from small acts, like pouring Camila Alves an extra cup of tea.

McConaughey’s speaking from experience: he and Alves have been together for about two decades, including 14 years of marriage, and share three children. In between the relationship talk and the gut-health sermon, he’s on the press trail for Brothers with Harrelson.
