Marvel Multiverse meets WWE in 'Avengers: Doomsday' crossover
WWE’s teaming with Marvel as Avengers: Doomsday approaches, and this crossover could upend what happens in the ring.
On December 15, WWE is turning its Worlds Collide card into a full-blown Marvel mash-up, staging an Avengers: Doomsday–themed show at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando. The timing isn’t subtle: it lands three days before Marvel’s next Avengers movie hits U.S. theaters, and the ring will feature performers from WWE’s main roster, NXT, and Mexico’s AAA.
The crossover is the centerpiece of a two-day slate in Orlando that folds live matches, a Netflix broadcast, and a sprawling fan fest into one weekend. It follows WWE’s recent pop-culture detours, including a Stranger Things –flavored Raw special back in January.
Orlando weekend lineup
- Dec. 14 — The John Cena Classic: Stars from Raw and SmackDown face up-and-coming NXT talent. Club WWE members vote on the night’s standout performer. The show streams live on Netflix as a Raw episode.
- Dec. 15 — Worlds Collide: Avengers: Doomsday at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, featuring WWE, NXT, and AAA talent.
- All weekend — WWE World: A fan event from WWE and Fanatics with superstar meet-and-greets and merch. Expect Avengers: Doomsday–branded championship belts and other co-branded gear on-site, at WWEShop.com, and in select Disney stores.
Box-office heat
Avengers: Doomsday has reportedly generated about $125 million in worldwide advance ticket sales.
That early haul puts Marvel within striking distance of DC ’s Supergirl , which wrapped its entire theatrical run at $126.47 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. The $125 million figure is from reporting rather than a new Disney disclosure, and the tally may have climbed since; either way, it reflects presales revenue, not tickets scanned during the run.
Disney previously announced $50 million in presales in September for the movie’s U.S. debut. Directed by the Russo brothers , the film pits Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom against heroes from across multiple Marvel universes.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in U.S. theaters December 18.
