Marvel Locks VisionQuest Date — Here’s When Ultron Returns to the MCU
Marvel’s 2026 is stacked: Daredevil: Born Again has just wrapped season two, The Punisher: One Last Kill hits Disney+ this week, Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters in July, and Avengers: Doomsday caps the year in December—plus another Marvel event fans are already buzzing about.
Disney finally put a date on the WandaVision spinoff we have all been waiting on. And yes, this is the one that brings Ultron back. 2026 is already crowded for Marvel — Daredevil: Born Again just wrapped its second season, The Punisher: One Last Kill hits Disney+ this week, Spider- Man: Brand New Day lands in July, and Avengers: Doomsday closes the year — and now VisionQuest has carved out its lane in the middle of all that.
So what did Disney just lock in?
At Disney's Upfronts, the studio gave VisionQuest a firm premiere date: Monday, October 14, on Disney+. Up to now it was only tagged for "fall 2026," so you can actually circle a day instead of a whole season. This thing has been in the works since October 2022, so it's about time.
Where it fits in the 2026 pile-up
VisionQuest drops after Spider-Man: Brand New Day and before Avengers: Doomsday — prime real estate if Marvel wants to thread any needles between those two. Feels like the right slot for a character piece that might ripple into the big December crossover.
The last chapter of the WandaVision run
Marvel is positioning VisionQuest as the capper to a loose WandaVision trilogy. WandaVision brought Vision back, but not exactly whole — he returned without the humanity he had before Avengers: Endgame. This series follows where that version of the character went and what he became after the Westview fallout.
Agatha connections and a Maximoff tease
VisionQuest also picks up threads from Agatha All Along. Specifically: Tommy Maximoff factors in, which Agatha's ending teed up. If you have been tracking the family tree and the magic side-stories, that detail matters.
Who is showing up
- Paul Bettany returns as Vision.
- James Spader is back as Ultron. Yep, Ultron is finally re-entering the MCU here.
- Emily Hampshire is on board as EDITH.
- Orla Brady is involved as FRIDAY.
Those last two are the Stark-adjacent AIs, which is a fascinating wrinkle given where Vision sits in the MCU's synth/AI sandbox. File this under: unexpectedly techy corner of the franchise expanding in a big way.
Does this tee up the next Avengers movies?
The timing sure suggests it could. Even beyond Doomsday in December, Paul Bettany has floated the idea that Vision could show up in Avengers: Secret Wars down the line. I would not be shocked if VisionQuest quietly sets the table for at least one of those.
The long road to October
Quick refresher: VisionQuest was first revealed to be in development back in October 2022. It floated in "fall 2026" limbo for a while, and now we have the actual date. Given the cast and the Ultron factor, the wait looks like it might have been worth it.
Bottom line
VisionQuest hits Disney+ on October 14. It wraps the WandaVision-era storyline, ties in Agatha, brings back Ultron, and lands right between Spidey and the next Avengers blast. Not subtle. Potentially very fun.
