Mark Wahlberg teams up with Riz Ahmed in Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller ‘The Big Fix,’ directed by Baltasar Kormákur. Inspired by real events, the film dives into a global soccer match-fixing conspiracy tied to organized crime.

Mark Wahlberg is gearing up for another high-stakes role, this time starring alongside Riz Ahmed in the Netflix crime thriller ‘The Big Fix.’ Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and produced by Chernin Entertainment, the film is set to begin production later this year, adding to Wahlberg’s already packed schedule of action- packed projects.

The story draws inspiration from a real-life international soccer match-fixing scandal, where criminal organizations manipulated games for enormous financial gain. Scripted by Guy Bolton and Justin Haythe, the film centers on a former Interpol agent who, now working in a bureaucratic position at FIFA, stumbles upon a massive scheme to rig matches worldwide. As he digs deeper, he embarks on a dangerous mission to expose those responsible and bring them to justice.

Global Conspiracy and High-Stakes Pursuit

‘The Big Fix’ promises a pulse-pounding ride as Wahlberg’s character tracks a cunning hustler, played by Riz Ahmed, who teams up with Chinese Triads to orchestrate the match-fixing operation. The official synopsis teases a relentless game of cat and mouse:

“The Big Fix follows a former Interpol cop in a bureaucratic role at FIFA who uncovers an international match-fixing scandal and launches a high-stakes mission to stop whoever is behind it. His target: a passionate hustler who joins forces with Chinese Triads to earn millions rigging football games across the world. As they start to circle one another, a high-octane, globetrotting cat-and-mouse thriller ensues — pitting two defiant, determined men against each other.”

Kormákur, who produces alongside Peter Chernin and David Ready, is no stranger to adrenaline-fueled stories. Executive producers Bennett Walsh and Jenno Topping round out the creative team. Netflix and Chernin Entertainment are eager to continue their collaboration with Kormákur, following their recent work on the survival thriller ‘Apex,’ which wrapped production and is set to premiere soon.

Wahlberg and Kormákur: A Proven Action Duo

This project marks a reunion for Wahlberg and Kormákur, who have a history of successful action films together. Their partnership began with 2012’s ‘Contraband,’ a remake of the Icelandic film ‘Reykjavík-Rotterdam,’ and continued with the buddy cop hit ‘2 Guns,’ where Wahlberg starred opposite Denzel Washington. Kormákur was also nearly at the helm of ‘Arthur the King,’ another Wahlberg-led adventure, but scheduling conflicts kept him from directing.

Both ‘Contraband’ and ‘2 Guns’ were box office successes, with the former grossing $96.3 million worldwide on a $25 million budget, and the latter pulling in over $130 million globally. Their track record suggests that ‘The Big Fix’ is poised to capture the attention of action fans and streaming audiences alike.

Anticipation Builds for Netflix’s Next Big Thriller

With Wahlberg and Ahmed set to lead, and Kormákur directing, ‘The Big Fix’ is shaping up to be a must-watch for anyone who loves high-octane thrillers rooted in real-world intrigue. As production gears up, anticipation is mounting for what could be one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases in the coming year.
