Marie Laveau comeback promised — Angela Bassett touts ‘All the fierce’ for American Horror Story
Angela Bassett just turned up the American Horror Story hype by hinting she may step back into a familiar character.
Asked what Marie Laveau is cooking up this time, Angela Bassett didn’t hold back. The Oscar nominee confirmed she’s stepping back into the shoes of the New Orleans Voodoo Queen for American Horror Story Season 13 and promised the character’s swagger and sorcery are dialed way up.
“We can expect all the fierceness that is Marie Laveau the voodoo Queen. All the fierce! the fight ! the spunk! the attitude! the magic! the spirituality, the mysticism. All of that, you know, it 's Gumbo,”
she told Entertainment Tonight. Bassett’s Marie Laveau last loomed over the franchise in Coven and returned in Apocalypse; this time, she says, the spirit and the bite are very much intact.
Details on the plot are still sealed, but co-creator Ryan Murphy is treating the thirteenth outing like an event. He’s stacking the season with returning players and, in some cases, having them slip into multiple familiar roles from across the anthology’s past.

Murphy said he set out to make Season 13 feel big — superstition and all — and the first call he made was to Lange, whose early turns helped define the show’s voice.
“I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica,”
he told Vogue. According to Murphy, Lange had been feeling nostalgic about the series when they met for dinner; he pitched the idea, she said yes, and the rest of the alumni quickly fell into place.
