Liev Schreiber is apologizing after scolding a reporter — a tense moment he seems eager to take back.

On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Liev Schreiber walked through what went sideways on the Nocturne red carpet. He joked he might not be the “best person” for a press line and said a reporter’s request to describe the show “in three words” threw him, felt pointless, and set him off.

“I went off on some terrible tirade about monkeys and profanity, and I apologize,” he said.

Schreiber said his mom, who follows his career news online, called to ask if he’d gotten himself into trouble. He admitted he “had a moment,” and added that after he initially scolded the reporter — urging her to talk to people as if they mattered — they moved past the awkward exchange and ended up having a good conversation.

“But the truth is, yeah, mea culpa, I had a moment,” he said.
