Legal name change: Zahara, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, drops her father’s surname
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter has made her name change official — and one very familiar last name is missing.
Per court documents cited by the Daily Mail, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has approved a petition for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter to legally drop her father’s surname. After a hearing on Sept. 28, 2026 , she is now officially Zahara Marley Jolie, with Judge Virginia Keeny signing off and no objections recorded.
The name change was approved Sept. 28, 2026, in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Zahara had already been using “Jolie” in public milestones: she was listed as Zahara Marley Jolie during her Spelman College graduation in Atlanta in May, and she used the same name when she was inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha in November 2023.
Siblings following suit
She becomes the third of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to make the switch official, part of a pattern that’s unfolded over the past couple of years.
- Shiloh Jolie — Stopped using “Pitt” after turning 18 in 2024 and later formalized the change, becoming the first sibling to do so.
- Maddox Jolie — Adopted by Jolie in 2002 and later by Pitt; he finalized removing “Pitt” earlier this month, per the Daily Mail.
- Zahara Marley Jolie — Legal change approved on Sept. 28, 2026.
- Vivienne Marcheline Jolie — Has filed to drop “Pitt”; a court hearing is set for Nov. 2.
Jolie adopted Zahara in 2005, and Pitt subsequently adopted her as well. The family ’s personal matters have played out publicly since the couple’s split in 2016, while the children have increasingly used “Jolie” in school and public settings before codifying those choices in court.
Next up is Vivienne’s petition: if no one objects at the Nov. 2 hearing, she could become the fourth sibling to have the name legally changed.
