Kristin Cavallari just dove back into her past with Jay Cutler and, yeah, it gets pretty spiritual pretty fast. On her podcast, she explained why she believes that whole relationship happened exactly the way it was supposed to — even when it clearly hurt.
What she said on the pod
On Tuesday, March 31, during a new episode of her podcast 'Let’s Be Honest,' Cavallari, 39, was talking about how to know when to walk away from a relationship and ended up unpacking her bond with ex-husband Jay Cutler, 52. She says she felt a deep, almost cosmic pull toward him — the kind of connection that didn’t make sense on paper but felt unavoidable.
'I know I was supposed to marry my ex-husband. I was supposed to have three kids with him.'
She called it a 'soul contract' — as in, something they agreed to do before they were even on Earth. If you buy into that idea, this is that in action. She even pointed out that they broke up while they were engaged and still found their way back, because she felt drawn to him in a way she couldn’t shake.
At the same time, she admitted she could see the red flags: logically, he was probably not good for her. But on a deeper, spiritual level, she felt she had to go through it. Her take: sometimes your soul knows you need a specific relationship to learn something, even if your brain is screaming no. And yes, she laughed that she was probably not helping anyone by saying all this — 'I’m probably just complicating it more.'
The divorce talk, revisited
This isn’t the first time she’s gone there. Back in February on the same podcast, Cavallari said she chose to feel every ounce of her divorce — the good, the bad, and the ugly — instead of numbing it. She credits that decision with most of her growth. In her words, pain, hurt, and suffering show up to teach you something. Not a fun lesson, but a lesson.

Where they are now
Cavallari says she’s currently single. Cutler, meanwhile, is engaged to Samantha Robertson. However you feel about soul contracts, her explanation does make one thing clear: this was a defining relationship for her — one she believes she had to live through to become who she is now.
