Kristen Stewart Eyes Directing Role in Potential Twilight Reboot
Kristen Stewart has voiced her interest in returning to the Twilight universe, this time stepping behind the camera as director for a possible reboot. She shares her vision and what it would take to make it happen.
Kristen Stewart has opened up about her desire to revisit the Twilight saga, but not as the lead actress fans remember. Instead, she’s set her sights on directing a new take on the beloved franchise. In a recent conversation, Stewart reflected on her early days in Hollywood and the impact the Twilight films had on her career, expressing a strong interest in helming a reboot if the opportunity arises.
Stewart spoke candidly about the directors who shaped the original series, saying,
I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies.
She admired the unique qualities each filmmaker brought to the table, describing their work as authentic, quirky, and perfectly in tune with the era before the franchise became a global phenomenon. Stewart noted,
They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.
Stewart’s Vision for a Twilight Revival
When asked what it would take for her to sign on as director, Stewart didn’t hesitate to outline her requirements. She emphasized the need for significant resources and a passionate team, stating it would take
a huge budget
and
a bunch of love and support
to fully realize her creative vision. Stewart made it clear she’s ready to take on the challenge, adding,
Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!
Her enthusiasm for the project is rooted in her deep connection to the series, which launched her into stardom alongside Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The Twilight films, released between 2008 and 2012, grossed over $3 billion worldwide and became a cultural touchstone for a generation of moviegoers.
Shifting Focus to Directing
While Stewart remains active in front of the camera, she’s increasingly drawn to directing. She recently completed work on The Chronology of Water, a film starring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, and Jim Belushi. Stewart not only directed but also brought her own creative perspective to the project, signaling a new chapter in her career.
In addition to her directorial efforts, Stewart has co-written, produced, and will star in the upcoming comedy The Wrong Girls, opposite Seth Rogen. She’s also set to appear in Flesh of the Gods, further expanding her range as both an actor and filmmaker.
