Kerry Washington keeps the Scandal spark alive, applauding the healthy bonds she forged with Tony Goldwyn and Scott Foley in a candid April 14 chat on Good Hang.

Scandal may be over, but Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn are still happily trolling the people who refuse to let Olivia and Fitz go. And honestly, I respect the commitment.

Kerry on keeping it friendly (and a little chaotic)

On the Tuesday, April 14 episode of Amy Poehler's 'Good Hang' podcast, Washington, 49, talked about how healthy things stayed behind the scenes with her Scandal guys, especially Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn. She even shouted out their families: she loves their wives, and they love her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha. Poehler pointed out that fans still ship Washington and Goldwyn in real life. Washington did not disagree.

'So hard. By the way, we like to f*** with people. I post stuff all the time with Tony.'

Poehler's take on that level of public mischief: that kind of comfort only happens when everyone involved is secure. Hard to argue.

Why the ship sails forever

Quick refresher: Washington led Scandal as Olivia Pope for seven seasons (2012–2018), with Goldwyn as President Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, her on-off, can-not-quit-you love interest from day one. Washington says she genuinely loves that fans still go to the mat for that romance — the debates, the passion, the whole ride. In her words (paraphrased): if the show gave people swoony escapism while also making them think and feel, mission accomplished.

About that reboot everyone keeps asking for

The cast is into it in theory, but a couple of practical hurdles keep coming up. Scott Foley (aka Jake Ballard) told Us Weekly back in December 2025 that a revival would only happen if Shonda Rhimes got excited about where these characters would be now — and if Washington could slow down long enough to shoot it, since she is, as he put it, everywhere, including the new Knives Out sequel.

Washington basically backed that up in March, telling Variety that any return starts with Shonda making the ask. So the ball is, as always, in Shondaland.

The deep-fan gag that will not die

Washington has also been leaning into a very specific fandom meme: she keeps taking selfies around town with actors Chase Infiniti and Tyriq Withers — who fans have decided are Olivia and Fitz's imagined kids. She joked about it in March and doubled down on Call Her Daddy the same month, cracking that they weirdly do look like their fictional parents: she sees her own smile in Infiniti and Fitz's in Withers. Absurd? Absolutely. Very funny? Also yes.

  • Kerry Washington is married to Nnamdi Asomugha; Tony Goldwyn has been married to Jane Musky since 1987.
  • Scandal ran seven seasons, 2012–2018; Washington played Olivia Pope, Goldwyn played President Fitzgerald Grant, and Scott Foley played Jake Ballard.
  • Reboot status: would require Shonda Rhimes to spark a new story and Kerry Washington to have the time, per Foley (Dec 2025) and Washington (March).
  • Ongoing fandom bit: Washington keeps joking that Chase Infiniti and Tyriq Withers are Olivia and Fitz's kids — and yes, she says they kind of look the part.
