Josh Hartnett’s 12-year-old goddaughter says he’s too old for Verity: ‘A thousand years old’

Josh Hartnett says the toughest early critic of his Verity casting came from inside the family. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor recalled breaking the news to his 12-year-old goddaughter — a superfan of Colleen Hoover’s thriller — and getting a hilariously savage reply.
"You cannot be Jeremy. You are like a thousand years old,"
Hartnett laughed as he retold her verdict, adding that she had a very specific idea of who should play Jeremy Crawford and he wasn’t it.
The feature-film adaptation teams Hartnett with two Oscar nominees, with each taking on one of Hoover’s slippery, secret-keeping leads. Here’s who’s playing who:

Appearing on This Morning on September 25, Hartnett said the movie leans into the book’s push-and-pull over what’s true and what’s manipulation — right through the final moments.
“And the point is it’s kind of an ambiguous ending. So you get to debate with your friends afterward, who you believe, which is fun. You don’t get that often in a Hollywood film,”
he said, promising plenty to chew on when the credits roll.
The movie adapts Hoover’s bestseller for the big screen with Hartnett as the embattled husband, Hathaway as the enigmatic author, and Johnson as the outsider pulling at the thread. Hartnett shared his goddaughter’s reaction on Fallon and teased the ending during his September 25 morning-show stop.
