John Cena’s Next Act: 4 Major Movies After WWE Farewell
After stepping away from WWE, John Cena is gearing up for a blockbuster run in Hollywood. Discover the four upcoming films that will showcase his talents in new and unexpected ways.
On December 13, John Cena stepped into the WWE ring for the last time during a broadcast of Saturday Night’s Main Event. After a hard-fought match against Gunther, Cena closed the book on his storied wrestling career. With his time in the ring now behind him, Cena is turning his full attention to the big screen, where he’s set to star in four highly anticipated movies.
Animated Antics and Legal Battles
First up is the long-awaited hybrid animation, Coyote vs. Acme. Once shelved, this Warner Bros. project is finally slated for release on August 28, 2026. Audiences got a sneak peek at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, building even more excitement. The story centers on Wile E. Coyote, who takes the Acme Corporation to court after their products repeatedly fail him in his endless pursuit of the Road Runner. Cena steps into the role of Acme’s attorney, facing off against Coyote and Will Forte’s character in what promises to be a wild legal showdown.
High-Octane Action and Toy Cars
Cena is also set to headline Matchbox, an Apple Original film inspired by Mattel’s iconic toy vehicles. Directed by Sam Hargrave, the movie’s plot remains under wraps, but Cena will take the lead, with a script penned by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper. Details are still emerging, but the project is already generating buzz among fans of action and nostalgia alike.
Comedy and Family Ties
Netflix has tapped Cena for its upcoming comedy, Little Brother. He’ll star alongside Eric André, with Matt Spicer directing and Michelle Monaghan joining the cast. Cena plays a successful real estate agent whose carefully managed life is thrown into chaos when his younger brother, played by André, unexpectedly reappears. The film is still in development, and a release date has yet to be announced.
Secret Agents and Star Power
Rounding out Cena’s slate is The Leading Man, another Netflix project. This action-comedy pairs Cena with Kevin Hart, both in front of and behind the camera as producers. Based on the comic book series by Jeremy Haun and B. Clay Moore, the story follows a self-absorbed movie star—played by Cena—who finds himself upstaged by his co-star, only to discover that Hart’s character is actually a secret agent on a mission to save the world. Jon and Erich Hoeber are handling the script, promising plenty of laughs and high-stakes action.
Saturday Night’s Main Event is available to stream on Peacock in the US.
