Jenna Elfman Finally Addresses Shifting Gears Future Amid Exit Rumors
Jenna Elfman pumped the brakes on exit buzz: despite booking The Interrogator opposite Stephen Fry, the 54-year-old confirmed to Us Weekly at the Fox Upfronts that her new gig won’t sideline her as Eve on Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears.
Jenna Elfman just pulled the curtain back on the whole 'Is she leaving Shifting Gears?' thing, and the short answer is: nope. She is adding a new Fox drama opposite Stephen Fry, but she says it will not mess with her ABC sitcom run. Let’s unpack what she actually said and what this means for both shows.
So, is she leaving Shifting Gears?
At Fox’s upfronts on Monday, May 11, Elfman, 54, told Us Weekly that her new gig on Fox will not get in the way of her role as Eve on ABC’s Shifting Gears.
"I can go play on Shifting Gears."
Translation: she is planning to keep doing the Allen-and-Eve storyline that fans have been invested in.
What is The Interrogator?
Earlier this month, Fox announced The Interrogator, with Stephen Fry leading the series as Conrad Henry, a former MI6 operative who uses unorthodox psychology and some very smooth mental chess to crack the worst of the worst when standard tactics flame out.
Elfman is a series regular playing Woodrow, a once-rising CIA standout whose trajectory went sideways after a botched mission. She’s now posted at the Defense Intelligence Agency, where she runs point on Henry’s cases. She sees the assignment as a step down, but also the path back to the big leagues. Expect friction: Henry tends to stay several moves ahead, and Woodrow is constantly trying to close the gap. It is a tense, competitive partnership built on reluctant respect.
Could Tim Allen pop up on the Fox show?
Elfman floated the idea herself. She said having Tim Allen show up on The Interrogator would be very entertaining, and that watching Fry interrogate Allen would be, in her words, cool. Scheduling and network realities aside, she’s clearly game for a crossover cameo if the stars align.
What this means for Shifting Gears season 3
Elfman was already expected back for season 3 of ABC’s Shifting Gears. She has appeared in nine episodes so far, all while also juggling AMC ’s Dark Winds, so the multi-show thing is not new territory for her. Last fall (September 2025 ), she raved about the show’s writing and the way the scripts lean into each character’s strengths, calling this season’s material genuinely hilarious and praising the showrunner and cast. Point is: she is happy there and wants to keep doing it.
- The Interrogator (Fox): Stephen Fry as Conrad Henry (ex-MI6 mind-games specialist); Jenna Elfman as Woodrow (DIA handler and former CIA rising star). Airs on Fox.
- Shifting Gears (ABC): Elfman plays Eve, the love interest to Tim Allen’s character. Streaming on Hulu; season 3 on deck with Elfman planning to return.
- Dark Winds (AMC): Elfman has balanced work on this series while appearing on Shifting Gears, a good sign for her scheduling bandwidth.
Bottom line: Elfman is not exiting Shifting Gears. She’s doubling up — Fox drama by day, ABC sitcom by night — and even teasing a Tim Allen cameo on her new show if the opportunity presents itself.
